an Open Letter from Leoric:
5 or so years ago when the local Coven dissolved I chose to move
the classes on-line. While this has had some success, I felt that
the original intent of the founders was not being realized, that
we weren’t making the impact on people’s spiritual development
that we wanted to.
That, plus other events, has lead me to suspend indefinitely all
on-line classes.
The “Other Events” I refer to are:
About 2 years ago I was invited to reconstitute the Coven at the
Universalist Unitarian Church in Haverhill. To date we have had
a wonderful relationship with them with many active participants
in the congregation. The online group at Meetup.com is close to
100 members as of Aug 09 with between 15-20 active members regularly
attending local events. The Coven has never had such active participation
in its history and the resources needed to manage such a group can
be somewhat overwhelming at times. There just aren’t the resources
at this time to properly dedicate to an active online presence
Also, during the last 5 years we have been hacked at least 3 times
that we are aware of, once by “Algerian Hackers”, once
by a Christian Fundy group, once by pornographers. Our mailing list
and members list has been compromised and this is very disheartening,
since we have always promised “no spam” and that we
would not let our member’s emails go anywhere beyond official
site use. We are currently redesigning the site but again our resources
are limited and must be focused on the local members who are working
at their degree programs.
We have a thriving vibrant local Coven that actively participates
in community activities and holds classes and open circles. At some
point in the future when we can provide the resources it deserves
and the protection it requires, we may resume on-line classes also.
In the meantime, we invite seekers in the northeast mass/ southern
nh are to participate in our local group.
